How I increased my Pinterest reach by 78,000% in 30 days

No, I am not lying. I am not an expert, I am not a pro, and I am definitely not extensively experienced. I just did a wee bit of research and wham…….traffic! Read how below

* Full disclosure: This post may include affiliate or referral links which means I may get commission. This does not cost you anything whatsoever and will help keep this website running *

I recently posted on twitter that my Pinterest is now my third largest traffic source (I’ve had my blog self hosted for around 2 months now!) and a little birdy asked for help! Of course, I jumped at the chance and said I’ll write a post on it! So, here I am, writing a post on it ….

[NOTE] That little birdy is Lily Martin of Covet Luxe, I love her website so much and it just deserved to be mentioned since she’s partially the reason I am writing this.

My Pinterest reach increased by 78,000% in 30 days, I double checked ’cause it just seems so unreal! and my monthly engagement increased by 5,400%.

Would love it if you’d give me a follow on Pinterest!Β

Now, my reach is still not something super duper extreme, currently my average monthly views on Pinterest as of 31/08/17 is 7.4K. Yes. 7,400. That’s not a crap load so some, but it most definitely is to me since I’m still a blogging baby!

So, Madiha, how exactly did you do it?

I’m going to tell you!

I read a lot of articles and posts, and I mean, a lot! I have a bookmark on chrome just for blog posts that I still need to read and at one point, it was all Pinterest strategies.

The worst thing is, the majority of the posts kept saying THE EXACT SAME THING!!!

Talk about annoying.

I have some that worked for me, and a lot more tips, saved on one of my boards on Pinterest! If you’d like to check it out, click here!

So, I’ll break it down to what helped me.

  1. Rich pins
  2. Better captions
  3. Better Pinterest graphics.
  4. Group boards
  5. The holy grail eBook
  6. Tailwind
  7. Tailwind tribes (the game changer)

Rich pins

These put simply are better pins. The title of the pin (or blog post) is in bold, so it stands out more, and also the pin has your website name and link there too, so it is easily accessible. Will also have your favicon on there! You can only enable rich pins if you have a business account, and having a business account in itself is super useful because you can view your analytics.

Better captions

You know how on Instagram the caption you write drives the comments, it works in a similar way on Pinterest. If you write an enticing caption, another Pinterest user is more likely to re-pin, share, or read the post. Make it engaging. Don’t think this is something you can skip, because it really is not. You skip this and you won’t get any traffic. Simple as that.

Better Pinterest graphics

Do not use rubbish pictures, or use pictures that are unrelated, and please don’t use backgrounds that have so much going on that the reader can’t focus on the text. Add your blog title in there somewhere as a watermark! Pinterest graphics that aren’t appealing won’t even get a second look!

Think of it this way, when you’re shopping online, the good looking items will catch your attention. Not the creased clothes, cheap looking shoes, etc. The detail in the items you buy are the selling points. It’s exactly the same with the Pinterest graphics. Details matter.

Group boards

Group boards are basically that, group boards. Boards with more than one member. The more members Β (generally) the better. Join boards that are specific to your niche, so beauty group boards if you’re a beauty blogger etc. You pin relevant pins to the group boards, other members see the pins and these pins then have the potential to be re-pinned and read by a wider audience. It’s like expanding your readership super easily. This can take quite a bit of effort sometimes, so keep reading to find out how I manage it all.

The holy grail ebook

Remember when I said that I highly recommend investing to make the most of your blog, I still stick by that!

Don’t remember me saying that, I said it in my Quick and Easy Guide to Self Hosting!

So let me try and explain this book to you. I am not trying to sell this to you whatsoever. I just want to share this because it did work so so well for me!

This book is written by Ana at The She Approach. Her posts on increasing traffic from Pinterest was exactly what helped me. Her writing style was friendly, she kept it simple and informative, and made it easy for me. I kinda like her if you can’t tell.

This ebook not only talks about pinterest, but covers everything;Β from the basics, to mastering SEO (search engine optimisation). It’s the perfect book for beginners or if you’re stuck in a bit of a rut.

I did buy this book, but before I did, I read a free chapter to see if I liked what I was going to be spending money on. This was a huge huge perk, I mean, what if I didn’t like the book, that’s money in the bin.

I read the free chapter, and after understanding exactly how good and useful it was, I decided to invest. You really should too! But, start with the free chapter.

I got an email from Ana, informing me of the freebies included in the eBook (this wasn’t a personal email, just one that was automated. But was lovely to receive nonetheless). Freebies include 2 months free Tailwind (Tailwind is super expensive! So admittedly this was one of the main reasons I decided to buy. Tailwind has been a lifesaver, but more on that later), 100+ Promo Facebook groups to join, Access to her resource library (which is AH-MAY-ZING) and a blog promo checklist.

Want more information about the eBook? Click here!

So, Tailwind. You most likely will have heard of it. That and boardbooster. They are automatic Pinterest scheduling tools. They help grow your Pinterest. But, they are both pricey. You get a free trial on both.

I use tailwind, because the layout of the website is much much more user friendly in comparison to boardbooster. It’s just easier and better to use.

You can get two months of tailwind for free with the eBook too!

How does it work then? Well, you schedule pins, say one day a week, for however long you want. You have time slots so you’re not scheduling them all at once (well, technically it’s on autopilot but you get the gist). The main reason why so many people recommend tailwind is because it does pretty much everything for you throughout the week. There are loads of tutorials on the Tailwind website that guide you through it all, making it all the better for someone who isn’t tech savvy.

You save so so much time, you increase your audience and you become much more efficient. It’s one social media ticked off your promotion list for the week! I highly recommend using the free trial, and if it works out for you, to buy it. I paid for tailwind after I purchased the eBook, because of the discount that came with it. It still is expensive, but it pays off. Like I said, it’s all an investment. Doesn’t make you bank account like you any better though πŸ™

Want to give the free trial a go? Click here to try it out and get a months free Tailwind if you decide to take the plunge.

Tailwind tribes

Last one, but the best one. This has been the turning point for me. Tailwind tribes are a lot like group boards. You pin something to a tribe (which you have to join), someone repins it onto one of their boards, and maybe someone else will pin it from said board. It’s the easiest and best way to maximise your reach super easily. They are a game changer. I rely on these. Now, these can’t be scheduled (not yet anyway), but really you’d only be pinning one pin on each board. No multiple pins would really be required. (doesn’t mean you can’t pin the same link using a different Pinterest graphic *hint*hint*)

Now, I totally understand this is a lot to take in. but take your time, re read it, if you’re confused or need some help, pop me an email, or comment below. I will reply. Promise.

I offer a Pinterest service for anyone who is interested in upping their Pinterest game and brining in traffic automatically. For more info on this service, including what I offer and prices, click here.Β

Great post! I’ve been increasing my Pinterest reach successfuly so far but somehow it doesn’t improve my blog traffic at all. πŸ™ Only few people go to my blog through Pinterest even though I’m pinning pins from my blog and being active on group boards. Am I doing something wrong with this? πŸ™

You probably aren’t doing anything wrong! Just stay consistent and if it is taking up too much time, I highly highly recommend Tailwind! The more you pin, the more it will show up on peoples feed and recommendations! x
