University starts for some in around a month from now. Some of you will be going into your first year, some your last, some won’t be going at all. Heck, some of you might not even be old enough to go and may be starting college? I’m changing courses this year (read here why) so I’m starting university again as a first year student, and wanted to compile a list of things I will buy (or more so, I want to buy) for uni and my flat (well, bedroom).

So, first things first, the bed! My favourite place ever. Has to be comfortable, has to be cute, and most importantly, has to be cosy. Must haves include cushions, a blanket / throw, teddy (or more than one, I’m not judging) and good pillowcases.
NOTE: Silk pillowcases are supposed to be REALLY good for your hair. They’re expensive but I reckon they are worth the investment. Keeps your hair softer, avoids split ends and fall out. It’s a yes from me.
Next, photos, ornaments, and anything and everything to help with homesickness (If you experience it, which you will, at some point)
Last year, half my bulletin board was covered with photos that I’d printed from boots (online is cheaper!) of holidays, family and friends. This is kind of cheesy, but it helps so much. I grew a lot closer to my family once I moved out for uni (maybe I grew up? maybe I started to realise how important family is? I don’t really know why) so having photo’s of the people I love on the wall did help. Especially with mental health issues! Snapfish regularly have offers on for photo printing and ordering photos online are pretty much always cheaper than in store!
Shine bright like a diamond! ✨
lights, lights, lights! Brighten up the room! It will have a positive effect on your mood whereas having a dull and dark room will just be a cause for negativity. Now, I have noticed sometimes fairy lights can be pricey, but if you look around for offers, you can get them much cheaper. My go to to look for fairy lights would either be Ebay and Amazon, or a discount store like Wilkos, B&M or Home Bargains. Also, get a lamp for your desk, don’t be working in the dark with only your laptop screen as a light source, it’ll give you a headache!

If you’re an avid reader, bring your books! Or your kindle/kobo (an e-reader will save a ton of space)! They will bring home comforts with them. And if you prefer hard copies, prepare to get some bookends, otherwise with all the files and papers and books on the shelves that you have, they will be a big mess before you know it. You can get books super cheap from The Works! Tesco and Asda regularly have good deals on too!
Speaking of files, Stationary is next on the list!
I recently did a thread on twitter (check it out here!) of these super cute stationary items I found on amazon that just make you smile by looking at them, and are also super photogenic! Make sure you have pens, files, plastic wallets (you can get these super cheap off amazon or pound shop! Don’t get riled into bigger stores such as WHSmith or Rymans who sell them at extortionate prices!)
Also, get yourself a planner to keep up to date with assignments, tests, lectures and seminars. Trust me when I say you will forget about a lecture that you had Thursday morning because it totally slipped your mind! Do not fall into the habit of missing lectures! I stumbled across a brand called Dot Creates, which do the most adorable stationary items! They do a pack for bloggers too! May need to add it onto my wishlist for September (read my August 2017 Goals and Wishlist post here!)! Alternatively, there is always poundland, etsy, Amazon, Wilkos and so many more that do great offers and decent stationary. Be warned though, they may lack in quality. But to be fair, you’ll go through a couple hundred plastic wallets just in your first semester!
Get comfy! This will be your home for the next year!
Bring your slippers and dressing gown and your favourite hoodie and PJs. If you wanna buy some new ones, head over to primark! Always super cheap and cute items, or there’s also Asda, Peacocks, and Asos! There’s so many stores to chose from, so make sure you don’t get ripped off when you can get a super comfy set of PJs for around £10-15 instead of around £30.
Okay, so last thing on this list, I promise.
Candles! Make your room smell heavenly, but make sure you’re allowed them first! A lot of student accommodations don’t allow candles (although that never stopped me from lighting one the odd time #rebel). If you’re not allowed candles, there are alternatives! You can use reed diffusers (you can get these super cheap from Asda, Wilkos, and Amazon!) Candles/Wax melts that I have my eye on at the moment are from a small business called Moonlight melts! I see them all over my timeline and they look just lush! Super cute shapes, reasonable prices and such a lovely and large range of scents! I’m instantly sold!
So, this is my wishlist done, and a lot of these items I have either bought for this year, or last year for my room! They are just a must! I’ll add other little bits just under here that you guys may like! Have a good year at uni!
Lots of love,
